A Zenit E “1980 Olympics” Edition Body - a rare fully operating example of this iconic camera.

Body Only, Lens Available Separately

In remarkably good working condition and excellent cosmetic condition, this is a special camera that has been film tested.

The Zenit E is a legendary, or infamous camera depending upon your point of view. Zenit SLR cameras were produced through the 60’s to 80’s and models were regularly, if only slightly, upgraded hence the very many model numbers. The E was the first model to incorporate a light-meter, an uncoupled selenium cell to be matched by a an aperture/speed dial on the top plate - indicated values then set via the shutter speed selector and lens mounted aperture ring.
Produced in large numbers in the soviet union, the Zenit is widely renowned for sometimes dubious build quality and dated technology. Some of the user controls bare a remarkable similarity to other well known soviet cameras from the 50’s and ‘looking under the bonnet’ of a Zenit confirms all suspicions.

Whilst acknowledging all of the above, a Zenit in good condition is renowned for producing excellent results, and indeed a Zenit was my first SLR camera!

This camera has been film tested and is fully working, the electronic light meter has been tested against an external meter and results compare favourably.
The camera has been cleaned, including the viewfinder and prism, the internal ‘black foam of death’ has been removed and replaced around the prism, there is a faint vertical line visible in the viewfinder, typical of these cameras otherwise everything looks good.

The Paragon 35mm lens tested with this camera is available to purchase separately, please see the individual listing.

This camera is in good, fully working condition. Check out the video below to verify operation.
